Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, whisk together 4 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 2.25 tsp active dry yeast, and 1 tsp salt.
- 2
In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup milk and 1/2 cup unsalted butter over medium heat until butter is melted and milk is warm (about 110°F). Do not boil.
- 3
Pour the warm milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Add 2 large eggs and mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
- 4
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
While the dough rises, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix 1 cup brown sugar and 2 tbsp cinnamon.
- 6
Peel, core, and finely dice 2 medium apples. Toss the diced apples with the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
- 7
Once dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle.
- 8
Spread 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border along one of the long edges.
- 9
Sprinkle the apple and cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
- 10
Starting from the long edge with the butter, tightly roll up the dough. Pinch the seam to seal.
- 11
Cut the roll into 12 equal slices. Place the slices cut-side up in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
- 12
Cover the dish and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
- 13
Preheat oven to 375°F.
- 14
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

While rolls bake, prepare the caramel glaze. In a small saucepan, melt 1/2 cup unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in 1/2 cup heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and whisk in 1.5 cups powdered sugar until smooth.
- 16
Drizzle the warm caramel glaze over the hot cinnamon rolls.
