Rinse the dried navy beans thoroughly and pick over them to remove any small stones or debris. Place the rinsed beans in the slow cooker.

Add the ham bone to the slow cooker with the beans.

Peel and chop the carrots, celery, and onion. Mince the garlic cloves. Add the chopped vegetables and minced garlic to the slow cooker.

Pour in the low-sodium chicken broth and water. Add the bay leaves, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper.
