Instructions

  1. 1

Prepare the pork chops by patting them dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

Prepare the onions by peeling and slicing them. Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them.

  3. 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the seasoned pork chops and sear for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown. Remove the pork chops from the skillet and set aside.

  4. 4

Reduce the heat to medium. Add the sliced onions and butter to the same skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 8-10 minutes, until the onions are softened and beginning to caramelize.

  5. 5

Add the sliced apples to the skillet with the onions. Cook for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender.

  6. 6

Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Stir in the ground cinnamon and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  7. 7

Return the pork chops to the skillet, nestling them into the apple and onion mixture. Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the pork chops are cooked through and tender.

  8. 8

Serve the pork chops immediately with the warm apple and onion topping.
